Candidates of the 72nd Miss Silliman were officially introduced to the public during the Press Launch at Robinsons Place Dumaguete, Aug. 5.
The 10 candidates vying for the Miss Silliman title are: Amidala Gabrielle Quisimbing (Institute of Rehabilitative Sciences), Oghogho Naomi Ovonlen (School of Medicine), Chanel Moira Pepino (College of Performing and Visual Arts), Mikhaella Lucinda Ponce de Leon (College of Business and Administration), Gabrielle Arojado (College of Nursing), Erica Lenn Villagracia (Senior High School), Ivy Marie Salaum (College of Mass Communication), Shannel Vendiola (College of Engineering and Design), Yihul Yuan (Graduate School) and Christine Grace Torncino (College of Arts and Sciences).
The candidate with the highest average score will receive the “Darling of the Press Award” on the pageant night. They were judged based on the content of the answers (60 percent), confidence (20 percent) and wit (20 percent).
The candidates were interpolated by the Panel of Press Judges. The questions involved current events, their advocacies, the theme, pageantry and activities, and other social issues.
The press judges were Cary Ace Lara (DYSR 95), Aprille Roselle Vince Juanillo (the Weekly Sillimanian), Judy Flores Partlow (Philippine News Agency-Dumaguete Bureau), Jennifer Tilos (Provincial Information Center), Marc Calumpang (Chairperson, Miss Dumaguete 2015), Sherlyn Abella (Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas-Dumaguete Chapter) and Glynda Descuatan (Airtime Production Pilipino Cable).
The Miss Silliman Pre-Pageant will be held at Luce Auditorium on Aug. 21, and Pageant Night at Lamberto Macias Sports Complex on Aug. 24.
The theme for this year is “Silliman Woman: A Bastion of Strength Through the Years.”
