The Google Developers Group (GDG) Cebu hosted the Google I/O Extended Dumaguete 2018 at Silliman Hall, July 28.

On its second year, the event aimed to showcase some of the latest technology developed by Google, and also provide a crash course on how to utilize them to build apps and software using this free technology.

The keynote, presented by GDG Cebu Community Lead, Shad Roi de la Cruz, talked about Google Duplex, a new piece of technology launched at the event. It features an Artificial Intelligence assistant that can call and talk in real-time, allowing users to book appointments, amongst other uses.

The conference also covered Getting Started with Firebase, Machine Learning with TensorFlow, Creating your first Actions on Google, and Chrome DevTools for Web Developers.

GDG Cebu will proceed to Leyte as the next stop in the Google I/O Extended Visayas Roadshow.

“Every time we prepare for the I/O Extended Roadshow, we’re always fascinated with excitement to visit Dumaguete for its very lively and fun participants who always love to welcome us with excitement as well. We really enjoy the audience’s active participation and being the only event in our roadshow that we have to close early because it was already sold-out,” de la Cruz stated.

Over 400 people, including IT students, developers, and tech enthusiasts attended the conference.
