Silliman University fell short against Zamboanguita Science High School and Ramon Teves Pastor Memorial- Dumaguete Science High School (RTPM-DSHS) in the clincher round to settle for third place during the 4th Inter-High School Economic Quiz Bee last July 27 at Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Dumaguete.
Lisa Nicole Beusch, Grade 12 student from SU taking Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture and Mathematics (STEM), was among 56 students from Negros Oriental competed in the quiz bee.
Zamboanguita placed first and RTPM-DSHS placed second.
The competition, hosted by BSP-Dumaguete, covered topics in economics, particularly relating to current events, central banking and monetary policies.
Beusch scored 8 out of 10 on the easy round, 6 out of 20 on the average round, and 6 out of 15 on the difficult round, which led her to the clincher round with Zamboanguita and RTPM-DSHS.
“It was a fun competition for me. However, I believe that I honestly could’ve won 2nd place if I just wrote my numbers properly, but I guess that mistake was a lesson I should learn from,” Beusch said.
After joining thrice since 2015 and consistently placing 4th, Beusch said that her background knowledge of the contest, along with prayers, might have helped her win.
