Dance Floor Royalties

Dancers are born with bodily kinesthetic intelligence (body smart). It’s through the gift of such intelligence that they achieve perfection in their dancing. However, a group of persevering dance enthusiasts has proven that dancing is not only just for those who have that in-born talent, but also those who have love for dancing.

Skip Dance Family (The Miracle Workers)

The Skip Dance Family, consisting originally of four boys from Negros Oriental State University, was formed in 2006 and headed by Charles Deloria. Optimistic of forming a crew, they decided to recruit not only those who know how to dance, but also those who want to dance.

“At first, I was really bad at dancing, but because of my eagerness to learn, I practiced and practiced and practiced until I got to be the dancer I am today,” one of youngest members said.

In light of their continuous recruitment and training of the dancers, from four members, they multiplied to 200. It is inspiring to know that their passion for dancing brought them to various stages and earned them numerous recognitions. Their crew slowly progressed in 2012 when they were adjudged as the champion for Sidlakan Star Season 2. In the following year, they won the Buglasan Pop Dance Competition and Sidlakan Star Season 3. This year, they bagged the titles “Sinulog Best Dance Crew” in Cebu, and finally as the “Negros Best Dance Crew”.

As of now, the group is up for a competition in ABS-CBN’s Pinasikat and GMA’s Bet ng Bayan. Wherever they will go, their supporters will always be their inspiration to keep on dancing. Jeffrey Regalado, the current leader of the crew, best sums up the group’s philosophy: “As long as there is life, we’ll keep dancing like it’s our personal hygiene.”

Quick Sound (The Dreamers)

Just this year, Quick Sound was formed out of a precious desire: a desire to be able to stand and perform in front of the crowd for the HipHop International.

Joemar Lapinid, organizer of the group said, “We picked Quick Sound because our music deals with fast beats. The usual interval of our formation is 2 counts only since we don’t want a dragging dance formation.”Quick Sound is composed of already experienced dancers which is already a “plus” for a crew which has just started. Since then, they have already won various dance competitions in the municipality of Siaton.

As the leader of the group, Lapinid values discipline from the members, and because of that, he is very particular with attendance during rehearsals and performances. Winning is the second aim of the group, and perfecting their routines for them must be on top of everything.

At some point, the dream of the crew was almost granted when they were invited by the HipHop International Philippines 2015 to join. But, the crew did not accept the invitation, for they promised themselves a year of practice to avoid wasting money. It’s just that, no matter what happens, they will always carry their dream as a group in their hearts.

The Slim Shadow Crew (Thin but Terrible)

Dancing is our life. Music is our soul, but God is above all.”

Slim Shadow believes that if God gives you the talent in dancing, failure of using and sharing it to others would be a sin. God is their utmost inspiration in every performance they would make.

“Niwang”(thin) is how they described themselves before, that is why their group is called called The Slim Shadow Crew. Founded by Marijun Sarabia Vidal, the crew originated from Bais City and started with only seven members in 2001..

These “slim” dancers have proven themselves after being hailed as champions in prestigious dance competitions like the Street Groves Season 3 and Dumaguete’s Best Dance Crew. But the grandest recognition they had was when they won 1st runner-up in ABS-CBN’s It’s Showtime last 2011, which was televised all over the country.

The Slim Shadow Crew is looking forward to joining a dance competition in Dipolog, the Buglasan 2014, and the Sinulog Best Dance Crew in Cebu City.

These crews are recognized as the top three crews in the first ever Negros Best Dance Crew organized by the event’s chairperson, Anna Dominique Humbe under the Renaissance Youth Leaders Forum, Sigma Beta Sorority and Beta Sigma Fraternity. Other crews that participated are as follow: Skip Newbies, Edge 3:16, E-Force, Corks Crew, Eminence United, and the Men’s Crew.
