“But the heroic struggle brought out the best in the Filipino character in the face of adversity and served as a beacon to freedom loving peoples everywhere.”
Indeed, we, Filipinos, are notable wherever we are in the world, and are famous inthe different aspects and careers. Lea Salonga, Manny Pacquiao, Charice, and many more, gave pride to the Filipino people as they have proven to the rest of the world how talented the Filipinos are. We have experienced many destructive calamities and political issues, yet here we still are - known for our amazing characteristics; this led tourists from different countries to come and visit the Philippines.
A famous poet once said, “The Philippines might be small, but the country has a big heart.” So what makes the Philippines and its people stand out? What do Filipinos possess to stay positive and to still have a genuine smile even through various predicaments?
Note that every person is unique no matter where he or she is from, and whoever raised him or her. As of us Filipinos, we have some characteristics which are distinctively ours, and here are some of these:
First, Pinoys are really good at “pakikipagkapwa-tao.” We are very open to other people when it comes to our feelings, experiences, problems and happiness. We have that sense of fairness and justice, concern for others, and the ability to empathize with others. Aside from that, Filipinos are helpful and generous.
Pinoys are also known to be family oriented people, who have a genuine love for the family. We can handle commitments fairly and take responsibility; and most of all, we honor and respect our parents.
Moreover, Pinoys have a cheerful and fun-loving approach to life no matter we’re up or down. We still manage to joke about our misfortunes and smile even in our lowest times. We even learn to laugh at those we love and hate.
However, let us all put in mind that nobody’s perfect. We, Pinoys, also have a few weaknesses. It’s not all the time that we portray our good side. There are also a few flaws we hardly even become aware of, and these are some of it:
First, we, Pinoys, have an attitude for personalism, a highly individualistic mode of behavior where we always try to give contrasting personal interpretation to the actions of other people towards us. Even when we say thank you to show appreciation, it’s usually thank you “but”, we always ask for something in return. Second, we, Pinoys, sometimes lack discipline. We have this relaxed attitude towards doing things and have a hard time managing our time. We also love to use shortcuts or ‘palusot’ system that also leads us to be careless at times. And the last, we, Pinoys, have a kanya-kanya syndrome. We are sometimes self-centered, which makes our peers feel that we are competing with them.
We, Filipinos, are loved all around the world. No matter what our strengths and weaknesses are, it’s up to each one of us to uphold the Filipino feature that we are known for, and show to the world why NOYPIs are exceptional. ~
