Silliman University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with San Francisco Theological Seminary (SFTS) last Feb. 19.
SU president, Dr. Ben S. Malayang III, signed the MoU with SFTS president, Rev.Dr. James McDonald, at the Board Room of the Leopoldo T. Ruiz Administration Hall.
Based in San Anselmo, California, SFTS is one of the top seminaries in the United States affiliated with the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA).
Before the signing, Malayang shared with guests some university operations, particularly the Continuing Calamity Response Program (CCRP), which was created as an answer to the increasing incidents of natural disasters in the country. Upon hearing of the CCRP, visitors from SFTS and PCUSA both commented that it was their first time to learn of and work with an academic institution demonstrating sustained efforts of giving and caring.
The MoU facilitates the promotion of common areas of interest including faculty and student exchange, sharing of resources and research collaboration.
The SU Divinity School led the operation of the said partnership.
With the SFTS-PCUSA team was Dr. Jana Childers, a popular professor of homiletics and speech communication, who served as guest preacher during one of the midweek services at the SU Church in celebration of the University Christian Life Emphasis Month.
