Negros Oriental donated a total of P4 million to eight municipalities in Eastern Samar that were affected by typhoon Yolanda.
Gov. Roel Degamo, together with vice-governor Mark Macias, personally handed over the check worth P500,000 to the mayors of the municipality who came to Dumaguete last Jan. 8 for the formal giving of the donation.
Eastern Samar Rep. Ben Evardone who came over with the mayors said: “There are other more rich provinces who we thank for because they also sent us donations. But other than that, it was Negros Oriental who gave us so much.”
With consultation from Evardone, the local Sangguniang Panlalawigan gave assistance to towns that did not receive much aid like Guiuan and some areas in Tacloban.
Lawaan Mayor Candida Gabornes went emotional while reading her resolution of thanks for the province.
She said the donation will be of good help to their rehabilitation plans.
Degamo is urging other provinces to also give donations to affected areas in Samar and Leyte.
“This is everybody’s concern since we are all Filipinos. We have to work together, so we can also empathize with our brothers and sisters that were affected by super typhoon Yolanda,” he said.
